- Had initial meeting to plan content, style and approach

- Filmed construction sites, 3 subjects, a Councillor and
areas around Newham
- Guided team on voice-over script writing

- Produced a paper edit for the team to view and feedback

- Worked with a musician on scoring a soundtrack for the

Purchased equipment & trained 6 families to film
themselves during a parenting programme. Used as a learning
Resource.
- Agreed Flexible Films would act as project managers and
worked out structure of project.

- Met families every month to collect and view tapes –
some were in Manchester, Liverpool and Bradford
- Logged and transcribed all tapes as project developed
– 40 hours of footage in total
- Edited a 20-minute version for REF’s AGM in June
2006
- Edited a 35-minute film when all subjects had completed
the course

- Edited new footage using the timeline from last Newham
Public Protection film made in November 2005
- We had already produced a film focusing on 6 departments
of Public Protection and this was re-edited with the new
footage
- We had previously liased with 6 departments, arranged
the filming schedule, identified subjects and sequences
to film

Supervised mental health Film Group in producing
a 20-minute film about CPA.
- Allocated roles for members
- Discussed ideas and planned schedule with members making
them aware of deadlines
- Guided members on interviewing, themes of questions and
getting the best out of subjects
- Taught members how to film sequences in a traditional
documentary style
- Taught members how to make use of natural and incidental
light
- Prepared members for filming, they did all the filming
themselves using their own broadcast filming equipment

- Met with Sandra Spalding (Re-Housing Settlement Officer)
to discuss content and objectives of the film.
- Wrote a script with Sandra who presented the film at
the beginning and the end.

- Interviewed and filmed 9 professionals talking about
their roles on the estate
- Filmed around the Brooks Estate
- Presented a paper edit of film before starting the edit
- Showed Sandra 1st draft who was very happy with this
version
- Arranged for 300 DVD and 50 VHS duplications for residents
on the estate

Taught 17 mental health users to produce, film
and direct a 20-minute film.
- Provided Oxleas with 3 service packages to consider
- A package was agreed for Flexible Films to work for 8
months enabling members to film and direct a 25 minute film
for a local World Mental Health Day event
- Flexible Films helped the group purchase broadcast quality
filming equipment
- 17 members were trained in all areas of production –
members planned, filmed and directed
- Flexible Films regularly met and fed back the progress
to staff
- Guided members on themes, approaches and styles of filming
- Encouraged members to work together as a team
- Taught members how to transcribe and log their footage
- Showed members how to select the relevant material and
produce a paper edit
- Edited the film following members’ paper edit and
directions
- Edited members’ stills photography into the film
- The group recieved the Oxleas Recognition Awards for
Best Practice and were runners-up in the Health and Social
Care Awards in 2005
- The film was also screened several times on The Community
Channel

Documentary following 3 survivors
of abuse. Film is used to train staff and inspire survivors.
- Met with Manchester Survivors’ Group History project
to discuss issues that needed to be raised in the documentary
- Met with subjects to put them at ease – we needed
to be very sensitive as it was the first time some of the
subjects had talked so openly about their childhood experiences
- Explained to the subjects the film-making process
- Filmed 3 subjects talking about their experiences
- Filmed subjects with friends, family, walking and doing
activities
- Mastered film after all subjects and MSGHP had viewed
and agreed to it
