Flexible Films have been making
co-produced films since 2002

What we do

We are a dynamic and ethical company that specialise in producing bespoke films for charities, organisations, businesses and individuals. Our passion is to enable people to find their voice and vision through film.

At Flexible Films, we enjoy working alongside our clients to co-produce films, animations and presentations in an inclusive and collaborative way. Our experience and versatility means we tailor each project to suit individual needs and budgets.

Since 2002 we have worked with NHS England, Social Care Institute for Excellence, Swiss publishers, the Race Equality Foundation, Mind, Traveller Movement, Together, Think Local, Act Personal, NSUN, Sarah Wigglesworth Architects and many others.

We are skilled at making people feel comfortable in front of the camera so they enjoy the experience. All projects are co-produced so those taking part feel empowered and involved.

We produce documentaries, educational films, animations, promotional videos, fiction films, social media clips and other visuals. We film, direct, edit, finalise - we do everything from start to finish and can create music, art, scripts, film sets and just about anything you need.

We enjoy working with businesses to communicate their message and brand and work closely with PEW Electricals who have supported us in launching the Magic Video Box. The Magic Video Box
makes eye contact and social distancing filming easy, intimate and fun.

As well as producing commissioned films we fund our own projects and have made a number of international  documentaries.
Our approach
We are people focussed and recognise the importance of good communication and transparency. We understand that in order for products to be creative and meaningful, they require the process to be enjoyable and fun. We never use jargon and always make the stages in film production clear and simple.

Clients can get involved as little or as much as they want and we value their input.

Our team

Sybil Ah-mane and Russell Hall started Flexible Films in 2002 when digital technology made it possible to film, edit and produce films as a small company.

We had both completed MA’s in filmmaking and were excited by the idea of producing films from start to finish.

We have a number of talented associates we work with including musicians, graphic designers, illustrators, cinematographers and script writers but the majority of the time, we work as a core team of two.

We are versatile and enjoy problem solving as each project creates its own unique set of challenges and solutions. Our style is broad because we listen to what our clients want. We love using our Magic Video Box when appropriate because we believe direct eye contact creates intimacy, connection and empathy in films. The box also helps people to relax and forget they are being filmed so it feels like they are having a natural conversation.

Therapeutic Filmmaking

We teach filmmaking skills from start to finish so participants can be producers, camera operators, sound technicians, interviewers, musicians, artists, set designers, writers, directors, editors and actors. We design bespoke programmes for all abilities and can provide film equipment to suit a range of needs. We are sensitive to the needs of different groups so teach at a pace that is appropriate and enhances growth and confidence. We support people so they gain confidence and are able to explore their stories therapeutically.
